School leadership is challenging. I know this firsthand, having spent 23 years in education as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. I loved every moment and had a lot of success over the years, but it was never easy.

After a difficult yet successful battle with cancer and a life-saving stem cell transplant, I made the tough decision to step away from the principalship. However, my heart remains in education.

Today, my mission is to use the knowledge, skills, and experience I’ve gained to support fellow educators. I help leaders meet the needs of both students and staff while making their work more focused, effective, and sustainable.


Four Keys to Improving Your School

There is no panacea in education—it’s not that easy. I often reminded my colleagues of this while facilitating professional development. School improvement isn’t about quick fixes; it’s about good people working together on the right things.

In my experience, four key factors drive success in schools:

  1. Organizational Clarity—A successful school must have a clearly defined collective purpose, and every system, structure, and practice should be intentionally aligned to support it. I partner with school leaders to clarify that purpose, set meaningful goals, develop strategic plans, and ensure alignment across all aspects of the organization to drive measurable impact.

  2. Healthy School Culture—A school’s culture can make or break its success. For students to engage in learning and for staff to do their best work, both groups must feel a sense of psychological safety and a true sense of belonging. I’ll help you establish the practices and structures that foster a positive school culture, which will be the foundation of your school’s success.

  3. Evidence-Based Instructional Practices—We know a great deal about how students learn best, but knowledge alone isn’t enough. Schools must operationalize evidence-based strategies to ensure consistently high-quality instruction in every classroom. I support school leaders in building the customized systems, structures, and professional development needed to establish a strong, baseline level of evidence-based instructional practices schoolwide.

  4. Time — If you’re a school leader, you know there’s never enough of it. I partner with you to design and implement the operational tools your school needs to run efficiently. With your input, I’ll develop clear, customized resources that take the guesswork out of daily operations—so you can spend less time managing logistics and more time in classrooms, supporting staff, and leading the work that matters most.

  • To truly meet the needs of students, families, and staff, a school’s culture must be built on a strong foundation of safety and belonging. I use perception surveys and stakeholder interviews to take a clear, data-informed look at these critical areas. The insights help identify priorities and shape a strategy built on systems, practices, and structures that support a healthy school culture—one where both students and staff feel psychologically safe and genuinely connected.
